Hope Transforms: A Success Story

Millicent* is the only daughter in a family of four. She has an older brother named Herbert*. They live with their mother in a nearby village. Both Millicent and Herbert are students at our Joska and Ndovoini Centers; Herbert attends Ndovoini Center while Millicent is in our Joska Center Junior High School.

Before Millicent and Herbert joined MOHI, they were both enrolled in another school. However, one day, Millicent's father left home to look for work but he never returned. The stress of the situation caused their mother to suffer a stroke, leaving her paralyzed.

With their father absent and their mother now paralyzed, Millicent and Herbert were left without support, struggling to continue their education and get daily meals. This situation worsened their mother's condition.

As a new school term began, Millicent and her brother were unable to return to school but remained at home, taking care of their sick mother. A kind-hearted parent told one of our social workers about the family, and our social worker went to investigate. The social worker visited the family to assess their needs and see what MOHI could do to ensure that Millicent and her brother received the support they needed.

Millicent enrolled in 7th grade at Joska Center and is now doing well. Her brother Herbert was admitted to MOHI Ndovoini Center and is also doing well. Their mother is receiving therapy and is under the care of her sister to ensure she attends all sessions. Millicent, who is now in boarding school, receives three meals a day and can concentrate on her studies.

During home visits, the family received spiritual guidance, and Millicent's mother embraced Christianity. Continued visits and counseling sessions for Millicent at school ensure the family's well-being and Millicent's stress-free learning.

The story of Millicent and her family demonstrates the positive impact of MOHI's intentional and holistic approach to transforming families and students while emphasizing a bold dependence on God.
