Hope Transforms: A Success Story

June*, Jude*, Jack* and Jane* are four bright students in our school whose lives have taken a remarkable turn from desperation to hope and dignity. Thanks to the compassionate support they have received through MOHI.

Just a year ago, their lives were clouded by tragedy and uncertainty. Raised by their single mother, the children are part of a family of six siblings. Their lives were once rooted in the coastal part of Kenya, where their mother lived with their father. Though he struggled to provide for the family due to inconsistent income, the family held together. That changed instantaneously when she received the horrifying news that her husband had been killed by a mob. The community turned hostile, and her family’s lives were endangered.

With no time to grieve, they fled in the dead of night with her four youngest children. With no money for transport, they began a heartbreaking two-day trek on foot, sleeping in the bushes and relying on the kindness of strangers for food. Her determination to protect her children and seek refuge led them to Kilifi, where a kind-hearted stranger offered them a place to sleep for the night. He later generously provided the fare that finally brought them to her childhood home.

But the challenges were far from over.

Returning to her father's house, she found little support. Without employment and with her children out of school for over a year, she was met with criticism and rejection from the extended family. Spiritually broken, emotionally drained, and with no clear path forward, she felt hopeless.

That changed the day a MOHI pastor and social worker visited her home as part of an outreach and evangelism effort. For the first time in months, a glimmer of hope returned to her eyes. Within no time, her children were enrolled in the MOHI program, which became the turning point for the entire family.

The transformation was immediate and powerful. The children reported to school with new shoes and uniforms provided by the school. This was a moment of dignity and pride for a family that had lost hope. Since then, the children have thrived, engaged in learning, and enjoyed the holistic support of MOHI’s programs.

Their mother, once unsure of how she would provide even a single meal, is now full of life and gratitude. Today, the family stands as a powerful testament to resilience, redemption, and the transformational power of love and community support.

  • Our netball and soccer teams participated in several competitions. They emerged on top and will advance to regional competitions next month.
  • Our ‘Farming God's Way’ team did practical farming in the community and at the school. We have implemented FGW strategies, and follow-up for trainees has been going on well. Currently, 92 gardens prepared by Grade 4 students have been harvested. The students are in the process of making bigger gardens.
  • During our service week, all students and staff were involved in different activities; clearing the bushes, supporting FGW, and cleaning dishes, among others.

  • During this term, 136 individuals were reached out to during door-to-door evangelism. Other outdoor and community engagement meetings, which engaged almost 320 people, were made.
  • Our outreach efforts reached 39 people who gave their lives to Christ.
  • We had a synergy Sunday service, a Sunday service that brings the students, staff, and community members together. Teams from Mountain Christian Church and Northpointe Christian Church were in attendance.

  • We were pleased to have Northpointe Christian Church visit us this term. They conducted a VBS for 562 students that was focused on trusting God. The students had a great time with their lessons, crafts, and games. They also had a fun day event for the whole school.
  • We also hosted a team from Snyder Memorial Baptist Church this term. They conducted a VBS for our Grades 2 to 4 students that was focused on trusting God. The students had a fantastic time engaging in their lessons, creating fun crafts, enjoying music, and playing games. To top it all off, the entire school came together for a joyful, fun day that brought smiles all around.

  • Pray for the Chumani community and the families we serve, that they may experience economic empowerment and live in peace and harmony within their homes and with their neighbors.
  • Pray for the sponsorship of our unsponsored students.
